VS.
Coffee!
How much does coffee cost over a year? Well, if you're like me and you drink at least two cups a day, then you are probably spending over $1500 on coffee a year. That's over $100 a month on battery acid. Scrooge, you bemoan from the towers of financial liberalism. Live a little! Totally. But if you're in my boat and make barely over $30,000 a year after taxes, a thousand dollars is a lot of money to spend, especially on something that spends less than sixty minutes in your body.
Solutions
Novice
Buy a coffee maker. Cuisinart sells a maker for $70.99 (that's one month's worth of Iced Tall Coffees from Starbucks). Grinds will run you on average $260 per year (that's $5 a week). Pick up a portable mug and make your morning ritual convenient and environmentally responsible. My new coffee maker lowered my monthly Coffee Shop budget from $100 to $20.
Master
Drink tea. It's less expensive and better for you. Plus it has the added pleasure of coming in hundreds of different flavors (coffee does too, but let's be honest, bitter is bitter).
Jedi
Water. It's free and electrolyte packed.
